“Man is…” the rest is immaterial

And need not be chronicled.

The boy and the girl did kiss

And the world looked on with joy

At that pure touch of early bliss,

Chaste in its childly stainlessness

     Given by the girl to the boy.

‘Twas the first kiss of youth, and used

The world is to those words abused –

“Purity”, “love”, “free from stain.”

Strange doctor who hath e’er confused

The medulla and the brain!
