The sense of greatness when it falls upon us

Brings a deep sadness and a {…} ache

For the unmanning of {…} doth dare us

With a |deep sense| of how far we forsake

Those usual ways of custom where we wake

To trust humanity since birth and own us

Its follows in the sacred our heart doth take

To {…} this ceases, greatness known bring on us.

What is out independence? The mere sense

Of basely apartness and flesh-place

Distinct, a body-mute soul pretence

Of having self by {…} grace.[1]

But a community with other souls

Links of a chain whose links turmoil but mix not

Yet cannot even be far from each other[2], wholes

That need each other to be wholes and linked thought

 

These are but words; but souls are words of God.

These are but images, but so is the word.

How where I stand and think on the above

Of mine own self, her do I err

     For who can know |where| there is[3] not involve

     A whole world true with |a real|[4] infinity?
